7 THINGS TO TALK ABOUT BEFORE COLLEGE Summer is about to be in full swing, and you know what that means—college students will be flooding campuses in just weeks. They will be on their own for most likely the first time, and if they are not prepared to be a responsible adult they can make a mess of their money, education, and lives faster than you can say “jello shot.” KEEP UP THE GRADES. 4 Hopefully you’ve been teaching your kids how to be responsible for many years, but here are seven things you might want to review with your teen before they head off to college: MAKE A BUDGET. 1 2 Even if your son or daughter has very little money, a budget is still important. They need to know how to manage what they have. Talk to them about giving every dollar a name each month (The Graduate’s Survival Guide can help with that).
