Lauren is a National Merit Semi-Finalist , an AP Scholar , and recipient of the Prattville High School ’ s Principal Award . As a junior , she was selected to attend both Auburn University ’ s Summer Science Institute and Alabama Girls ’ State . In her spare time , Lauren enjoys playing piano and participating in her school ’ s speech and debate team . She shares , “ I want my legacy to be one of service and compassion exhibited towards others ,” and she is well on her way to building that legacy . She is a student representative for Heritage Baptist Church ’ s Orphan and Foster Care Ministry , a member of the Heritage Baptist Church youth group , and a participant in the YMCA Global Leaders Program . Lauren shares , “ The most important lesson my parents have taught me is the value of a strong work ethic .” She adds , “ I am proud of my dad for making it all these years as the only guy in the house ! He is so patient to put up with our girl talk and support us in our every endeavor .” parents ’ perspective
Clyde and Tara both admire Lauren ’ s determination to work hard and make things happen . Tara explains , “ Lauren was our strongwilled child . She has really used that trait to her advantage , and she also takes her commitments seriously .”
