Lee High Students Cover Ceiling with Gauguin ’ s Arearea
Lee High students Luke Campbell , Da ’ rius Crapps , Obadiah Dotson , Perelle Farrow , Katera Jackson , Janeice Kennedy , Gabriel Lewis , Markia Rogers and Iesha Shuler adorned the school ’ s celling recently with a reproduction of Gauguin ’ s Arearea . Lee ’ s art teacher Heidi Myrick said , “ Every year I talk with my students about painting a mural , but not just any mural ; one that is on the ceiling . Everyone really liked Paul Gauguin ’ s work , we finally settled on Arearea . The students liked the colors and the simplicity of his work .”
The student took a line drawing of Arearea and divided it up into 12 squares . They took each panel out , marked them with numbers and arrows that would correspond with the gridded line drawing . They painted gesso on each ceiling tile before they began drawing on them . Each student then took 1 or 2 tiles and sketched them out , then they began painting , working with different dry brush techniques to be get the same colors and brush strokes Gauguin is known for . “ As a teacher I ’ m very proud of their hard work and effort it took to complete this project and now I ’ ll have something from them that will remind me of them every time I look at it ,” Myrick said .
Trinity ’ s Undefeated Boys Basketball Team Wins Capital City Classic Tournament
The Trinity Wildcats were undefeated , and as the Championship Game of the 2016 CCC wound down , they were down to their last out . Trailing by 3 and with 10 seconds to go , they desperately needed a 3 pointer from someone . Taking the ball out under their basket , Coach Schweers called a play they have run for 24 years , including when they ran it for PCA Coach Jason Roberson . It didn ’ t go exactly according to plan , but close enough as sophomore Charlie Lott drained a 3 to send the game into overtime , where the Cats prevailed 44-42 .
Trinity was down the entire game , by as much as 9 in the 4th quarter , and 4 down with less than 3:00 to go when Luke Hufham had a thunderous dunk on a pass from Lott that ignited the Trinity fans . Lott stroked another 3 midway of the OT to put Trinity up by 4 briefly , but PCA cut it to 43-40 on a Cooper Meadows free throw . PCA fouled Lott with : 07 to go and he made 1 to make it 44-40 . Trinity allowed PCA to score as time ran out to make it a final of 44-42 .
Charlie Lott lead Trinity with 17 points and was named to the All-Tournament team with Luke Hufham who had another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds . Senior guard James Wilder was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament .
