The 2017 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama was named January 21st with Shelby County Representative Claire Kendrick receiving the title . Named 1st Runner Up was Lauren Chambliss of Autauga County , and 2nd Runner Up Chilton County ’ s Ada Ruth Huntley . The remaining Top 8 finalists were : Tuscaloosa County : Runa King ; Dekalb County : Alexis Chambers ; Jefferson County : Sherry Wu ; Talladega County : Caitlyn McTier ; Houston County : Emma Grace Benton . Miss Kendrick also took home Preliminary Awards in the Talent , Fitness , Interview , and Self- Expression categories and was awarded Scholarships totalling $ 11,000.00 .
