Tallassee Students Win Big at Future City Competition
The Future City Competition is a project-based learning experience , in which students in 6th , 7th , and 8th grade imagine , research , design , and build cities of the future . Keeping the engineering design process and project management front and center , students are asked to address an authentic , real-world question : How can we make the world a better place ? Mrs . Terina Gantt lead the team .
Southside Middle School teams designed a virtual city using Sim City software , wrote a 1500-word essay describing their solution to creating innovative public spaces , designed a city model that detailed their solution and penned a 7 minute presentation that was delivered to a panel of eight judges .
This year ’ s teams were very successful . The seventh grade team was awarded the Student ’ s Choice Award and the award for the best use of unmanned robotic technology . The sixth grade team was awarded the Reliability and Redundancy Award for integrating reliable technology . Each award is accompanied by a $ 150.00 cash prize to be used in aided the improvement of each team .
