Don’t leave anything blank on the admissions application,
including your Social Security Number: Colleges need this
information to download your FAFSA and put together your financial
aid package (including government grants or loans).
Don’t skip the optional application questions: Some colleges
use these answers to determine your eligibility for special scholarship
opportunities or other services that you might be specifically qualified to
receive.
Think twice before using “score choice” when taking the ACT
or SAT: Waiting to send your test score to colleges until after you have a
chance to review it costs extra.
Show them you are interested: Taking advantage of opportunities
such as campus tours and information sessions, making contact with an
admissions counselor or talking with representatives at a college fair may
increase your chances of receiving phone calls from students or faculty,
brochures, and even invites to special opportunities on campus. It may
