Be sure to capture all of those memories with great
photographs. Brooke Glassford with Colorbox
Photographers offers a few tips:
1. BE THE DIRECTOR: For a group shot, order the guys
according to height, then have their dates stand in front of them
and slightly to the side, so you can see everyone’s faces.
2. TAKE FORMAL AND FUN SHOTS: Sometimes it’s
easier to get more genuine smiles after a “fun” picture. I usually
say something like, “Strike a pose!” or “Show me your sassy!”
first and then take one more formal picture afterwards.
3. LOOK FOR NATURAL LIGHT: Outside pictures are
preferrable, but if you are inside, look for a room with natural
light from windows to alleviate the harshness of a flash.
4. OFFER TO TAKE PHONE PICS: Parents, while
taking your own pics, be sure to offer to take some with your
teen’s phone so that they can post it to social media. TIP: On the
iPhone, tap the screen a couple of times to allow for more light
and to focus on the subject.
5. EDIT EASILY ON YOUR PHONE: A few quick edits
before you upload can really make a difference. I recommend the
editing tools in Instagram, and also the PicTapGo app.

The Prom is definitely the main event, but there’s plenty
of opportunity to keep the fun going by hosting a fun
and festive pre- or post-prom gathering.
DECIDE YOUR MENU FIRST: Interactive, “serve
yourself ” food stations are a great way to set up a meal for teens
because it is fun and lets them create what they like. A few ideas:
• TEX-MEX DINNER: Guests can make their own chicken and
shrimp tacos or nachos from a chips, dips and salsa station.
Carve out avocado halves to use as individual serving bowls for
guacamole.
• A “MOCKTAIL” MARGARITA STATION: Serve a fruity
sorbet (think strawberry, lemon, lime) in fun cups with colored
sugar sprinkles coating the rims.
• LATE-NIGHT BREAKFAST: Think favorites like grits and
waffles served in a fun way. Set up a grits station with bacon,
cheese and other favorite toppings (see our Crockpot Southern
Grits Recipe). A tower of biscuits with homemade jams, butters
and a favorite—Chick-fil-a nuggets—is always a big hit.
KEEP THE DÉCOR SIMPLE: Single stem blooms in small
bottles bring a pop of color to the table. Accent tables with floor
length linens that coordinate with the theme. Think outside
the box and use items you already have at home. Fresh fruits
and vegetables are great accents to the food
tables. Paper and tissue garlands are also fun
and easy to make, as well as cost-efficient.
