acne myths
The complexity of acne has caused many myths to be formed over the
years. Here are some of the most common compared to actual facts
about the disease.
MYTH 1
Washing the skin as often as possible to keep it dry will prevent acne.
FACT: Dry skin can cause irritation and can increase dead skin
cells that clog pores. A balanced combination of washing, exfoliation and moisturizing should be employed to keep the skin clean and
healthy.
MYTH 2
Eating oily foods can be a direct cause of acne breakouts.
FACT: While having a poor diet is not exactly healthy, it has not
been proven that eating oily foods can lead to acne. A healthy, balanced diet is important, but the occasional burger or pizza isn’t going
to cause a breakout.
MYTH 3
Acne is only skin deep and not affected by daily lifestyle at all.
FACT: A stressful lifestyle can have a negative impact on the
skin. Stress can increase various hormones that can cause higher oil
production. Helping your teen deal with stress decreases the hormone
levels that can cause breakouts.
