Scholarship
The Evangel Christian Academy Cheerleading
squad has worked throughout this summer in
preparation for the AISA Cheerleader Clinic, held
at Huntingdon College July 18-21. The young ladies
will compete in the East Division and are very
excited about performing for large, enthusiastic
crowds of supporters that week, as well as during the
course of the 2016-2017 school year. Squad members
are: Alaina Horton, Ashley Jones, DeAvionne Lee,
Michelle Raney, Lauren Stehl, Dymon Tucker,
and JoEllen Whitfield. Team sponsor is Mrs. Tina
Stoddard.
Prattville Christian Academy is proud to announce that Zach Taylor accepted an
athletic scholarship to run track at The University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama.
Taylor is an exceptionally self-motivated athlete who continually pushes himself
to accomplish his goals. As a senior, he was selected by his teammates to serve
as the Cross Country team captain. He was instrumental in designing team
workouts in a fun yet challenging manner and continually encouraged others to
push harder and do their best.
“It has been my honor to coach Zach Taylor. He is a great young man and
dedicated leader on and off the track. He sets high goals for himself and works
to achieve them,” said Ken Lantz, PCA Cross Country head coach. “He has also
shown tremendous improvement in just the two years that I have been his coach.
In the 5K, he has improved from a time of 21:29 to a personal best of 17:52; that’s
an amazing improvement of 3:37 in just a few months.”
Macon East’s Jesi Garrett named
Jimmy Hitchcock Award Winner
The YMCA’s Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award is the highest honor bestowed
upon high school athletes in the Montgomery area. At the 57th annual Jimmy
Hitchcock banquet, Macon East’s Jesi Garrett was honored to be selected as
the 2016 female winner. The daughter of Terri and Alan Garrett, Jesi is not
only an outstanding student at Macon East with a GPA of 4.24, she is a 10
time state champion and Valedictorian of her graduating class. A three sport
athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball, she has earned 5 consecutive state
championships in both volleyball and softball. Jesi not only made history as the
first Hitchcock award winner from Macon East Academy, she will be the first
two-sport athlete at the College of Coastal Georgia. Jesi has committed to play
both volleyball and softball for the Mariners, while pursuing a degree in nursing.
Also representing Macon East at the 2016 Hitchcock awards was Lexi Brantley.
Lexi is also a 5 time state champion in volleyball, an outstanding student and
leader at MEA, and will be continuing her athletic career at Belhaven in Jackson,
Mississippi.
Nate Center and Bailey Williams were selected as this year’s freshman
representatives and were both inspired to strive to be award nominees as seniors.
Macon East congratulates all of these outstanding Christian athletes who proudly
represented their school at the 2016 Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award ceremony.
