Dr. David Chaplin, A native of Los Angeles, eamed his Ph.D. in Economics from Colorado State University and currently serves as Associate Professor of Economics at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. An elite referee and judge with the International Boxing Association (Lausanne, Switzerland), David has creatively merged his passions for economics and boxing in the following recent scholarly articles: 1). “Blood, Sweat and Fears: The Need for a Professional Boxers’ Pension Plan” {Journal o f Sport and Social Issues, Volume 36, Number 4, 2012), and 2). “Pay and Race in World Championship Boxing” {Journal o f Economics, Volume 38, Number 1, 2012). He is also a keen Student of cinema and integrates analyses of film into his economics courses; he finds two of Montgomery Clift’s early films {The Search, 1948 and The Big Lift, 1950) as ideal vehicles for effectively conveying basic economic principles and providing emotionally engaging and intellectually rewarding entertainment.
