Villages substitute Teddy Williams under attack
by his brother Stephen whilst Paige Boone and
Stewart Campbell can only look on
With one chukker left to play Barbados held the 5-2½ advantage and
intermittent rain did not help the cause of the visitors. But Campbell
was not giving up just yet, he scored his third goal of the game before
setting up Jim Parr for their second goal of the chukker to pull his side
within ½ goal. It was a thrilling end to the game but the Villages were
unable to take the lead despite their best efforts. The series was now
level one game a piece
With the 3rd game in 3 days looming, both sides had everything
to play for.. the question was who would have the Midas touch. From
early it was clear that Stewart Campbell was on commanding form
again. An MVP performance by him led the LIME sponsored Villages
polo team to victory when the curtains came down on the three-game
series at Holders Polo Estate on the Sunday. This time Barbados fielded
a team of Sir Charles Williams, Richard Deane, Teddy Williams and
Danny Atwell for the final game. Teddy Williams got the home team going when he capitalised on a well-directed back hand shot by Deane;
Williams turned quickly and moved from just inside his own half to run
away for the goal. Unfortunately for Barbados this lead was shortlived as
Baisch levelled for the Villages before the first horn.
The second chukker belonged to the visitors and it seemed they could
do no wrong. An attempted clearance by the Barbados team in front
of their goal bounced off Jim Parr’s pony and into the goal. Shortly
the reafter Paige Boone finished off a play which Campbell had started
to move the visitors up 3-1. Campbell then finished off a 30 yard
penalty before a solo run gave his team a 5-1 lead at the end of the
second chukker.
The stunned Barbados team tried to respond when an Atwell shot went
just wide but he made amends, scoring a penalty shortly thereafter.
Atwell also spearheaded the next goal for the Bajan team delivering an
impressive long ball down field which settled just in front of goal and
only needed the slightest of final touches from Teddy Williams as the
Villages defence closed on him fast.
