PLUS MODEL MAGAZINE May 2015 Swim Issue | Page 113
Hands should always be manicured and moisturized. Always keep a moisturizer in your
model bag to slather on at go-sees and bookings. Cuticles should be trimmed and please, no hang
nails. You can either get a manicure every 2 weeks at the salon or do your own.
Never have chipped polish or uneven nails.
Nails should be trimmed to an “active length”. Clients do not like super long nails. The
length of your nails should be either short and trimmed. Or if long, no longer than peeking over
your finger. Take a look at catalogs and magazines. Take your cue from these models who are
working.
The color of your nails should be nude or clear polish. The color nude is different for
everyone depending on your skin color. Buy a color close to your skin tone to have on hand,
should there be any chip mishaps. You should always have clear polish on hand, because it’s great
for an emergency such as a run in tights or hosiery.
Have a box of fake “press on” active length nails handy. These are a life-saver and an
instant manicure for last minute go-sees and bookings. You can use the glue-on kind as well, but
the “press on” ones are easy to stick on while in a car or on the train on your way to work. I once
stuck them on in the bathroom of a go-see for swimsuits…and I booked the job! Believe me, the
$7-$15 for the box of nails is worth it.
Who knew there were fake nails for your toes?? If you are in a bind, grab a box of these
and you are set! On a shoot, the nails on your toes should match the nails on your fingers.
These ‘lil “model secrets” may seem like no big deal, until you realize those gals that didn’t book
the job didn’t even think of these “model secrets”. Stay tuned for my next feature in a future issue…
