PLUS MODEL MAGAZINE June 2016 Swim Issue | Page 75
One of the biggest challenges is to find clothes that are interesting from a design
point of view. Fashion has recently gone through a great revolution with fast fashion
chain stores, that give customers the opportunity to buy affordable clothing with
a more studied design. Unfortunately, this common aspect is not so common
for plus-size men. The trend is still the “big and tall mall” where you can find
something to cover yourself, but not to wear in a stylish way. There isn’t much
research in fabrics, prints, materials. So to find something interesting, and in your
size, is a major challenge.
Another issue is the fit; male bodies can have big pectorals, wider hips, and larger
legs. Unfortunately, designers don’t pay attention to those aspects. Therefore, even
and women. For example, Kiabi, Promod and Esprit are European shops that are
looking to combine small prices, quality and design for plus-sizes.
In terms of niche brands, my favorites are 5PREVIEW, Odeur Studios, Henrik
Vibskov, D.Gnak, and the Italian brands CYH (Clap Your Hand) and Lucio Vanotti.
They’re all brands that, thanks to their design solutions, create clothes that fit very
well.
Some plus size men feel uninspired to develop a personal style. Where
do you draw your inspiration?
