Mount Carmel East Transforming to a People-focused Healthcare Campus The new MCE will be an all-private, 381-bed campus optimized to provide the healthcare of tomorrow while reflecting our commitment to people-centered care in everything we do. From a new, simplified campus entrance to seamless, efficient care that supports better patient outcomes and safety—every detail is designed to create a welcoming, safe and healing environment. The new modernized campus will bring comfort and confidence to Columbus’ east side communities through advanced patient care, including the introduction of level II trauma care to treat critical and complex emergency cases. The renovation and modernization of MCE will lead the way for continued success in caring for central Ohio communities for generations to come. d Project Highlights • An all-private 381-bed campus with full reconstruction of four floors of the original 1969 structure; including the creation of 112 new private rooms to ensure comfort and safety with more space for families to be with patients during treatment and recovery. • A new 5-story (284,000 sq. ft.) patient care tower with 128 beds that offer the flexibility of being operated as critical care or intermediate care beds for improved safety and convenience. • A new surgical suite with 12 operating rooms and 40 perioperative spaces will equip our staff and physicians to deliver outstanding, state-of-the-art surgical care. • A spacious, light-filled main entry and lobby, new chapel, peaceful respite areas and park-like outdoor spaces will create a welcoming experience that promises comfort and compassionate care. • An expanded cafeteria and kitchen will provide staff and visitors a varying menu of healthy meals in the new bistro-like dining area, and patients may order room service that meets their individual needs. • The new, more prominent main entrance and expanded parking will create a more convenient and easier path to access our main entrance or ED. • With a $310 million investment, MCE’s modernization will begin in May 2015. The new patient care tower will open mid-2018. Once the tower opens, renovations of the original 1969 building will begin and will be finished in late- 2019.
