Mount Carmel East
Transforming to a People-focused Healthcare Campus
The new MCE will be an all-private, 381-bed campus
optimized to provide the healthcare of tomorrow while
reflecting our commitment to people-centered care in
everything we do. From a new, simplified campus entrance
to seamless, efficient care that supports better patient
outcomes and safety—every detail is designed to create a
welcoming, safe and healing environment.
The new modernized campus will bring comfort and
confidence to Columbus’ east side communities through
advanced patient care, including the introduction of level
II trauma care to treat critical and complex emergency
cases. The renovation and modernization of MCE will lead
the way for continued success in caring for central Ohio
communities for generations to come. d
Project Highlights
• An all-private 381-bed campus with full
reconstruction of four floors of the original
1969 structure; including the creation of
112 new private rooms to ensure comfort
and safety with more space for families to be
with patients during treatment and recovery.
• A new 5-story (284,000 sq. ft.) patient care
tower with 128 beds that offer the
flexibility of being operated as critical care
or intermediate care beds for improved
safety and convenience.
• A new surgical suite with 12 operating rooms
and 40 perioperative spaces will equip our
staff and physicians to deliver outstanding,
state-of-the-art surgical care.
• A spacious, light-filled main entry and lobby,
new chapel, peaceful respite areas and
park-like outdoor spaces will create a
welcoming experience that promises comfort
and compassionate care.
• An expanded cafeteria and kitchen will
provide staff and visitors a varying menu of
healthy meals in the new bistro-like dining
area, and patients may order room service
that meets their individual needs.
• The new, more prominent main entrance
and expanded parking will create a more
convenient and easier path to access our
main entrance or ED.
• With a $310 million investment, MCE’s
modernization will begin in May 2015. The
new patient care tower will open mid-2018.
Once the tower opens, renovations of the
original 1969 building will begin and will
be finished in late- 2019. MCE will continue
to deliver outstanding care throughout
construction.
