INTERNATIONAL INDOOR
PICKLEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
J
ust south of Seattle in Centralia, WA, the Northwest Sports
Hub hosted the International Indoor Championships from
May 11 to 15. There were 352 men and women competing over
the five-day event (on 25 full-size courts and 6 mini-courts),
making it the largest indoor non-cement pickleball tournament
in the world.
Directors Ken and Miok Lee assembled a large team of
dedicated volunteers to oversee all age and skill level events.
The green Pickleball Now, the ball (which is a little harder and
bounces a little higher than most other indoor balls), was
selected. For players and spectators, six large monitors were
brought in for scheduling and bracketing information. Multiple
sets of bleachers provided excellent viewing for the hundreds
of players and spectators. Over $9,000 in prize money was
awarded to age and skill winners.
Congratulations to champions Tyson McGuffin (Men’s
Singles), Kurtis Campbell and Enrique “El Condor” Ruiz (Men’s
Doubles), Sarah Ansboury and Tonja Major (Women’s Doubles)
and Sarah Ansboury (again) with Wes Gabrielsen (Mixed
Doubles). •
