For her comeback film , Lav Diaz ’ s Ang Babaeng Humayo , actress-network executive Charo Santos-Concio was given the Special Mention honor in acting at the 17th Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , held in the Canary Islands over the weekend . She is no stranger to international recognition , having won her first best actress trophy at the Asian Film Festival for her movie debut , Mike de Leon ’ s “ Itim ,” held in Sydney , Australia , in 1978 .
She said : “ This piece of good news is always welcome ! I am grateful to have been considered worthy of a special mention .”
Charo wins in Canary Islands fest
She recounted that her director Diaz had forwarded an e-mail to her . “ The festival head said that the jury was torn , so they made an exception for the first time in the acting category and decided to give this special recognition .”
It marks another first for Concio and the country .
She asserted : “ My thanks to the jury and again thanks to Direk Lav for the trust !”
Ang Babaeng Humayo won the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival last year , the highest honor accorded to a Filipino film in the international arena , thus far . ●

About 100 Kapamilya stars share the limelight with ordinary Filipinos that brighten up our day in ABS-CBN ’ s much-anticipated 2017 Summer Station ID , launched on April 17 in TV Patrol . The lyric video for the featured song “ Ikaw Ang Sunshine Ko , Isang Pamilya Tayo ”.
The music video shows how Filipinos spread joy and hope even through simple ways just like how a guitar-playing nun , a colorful water vendor , and an elder serenading pedestrians with a bamboo flute have brought smiles to other people .
Also featured in the Summer Station ID are the country ’ s biggest stars , hottest love teams , and journalists enjoying different activities every Filipino family would love to do this vacation season . The video is produced by ABS-CBN ’ s Creative Communications Division ( CCM )
Tribute to Pinoys summer station ID headed by Robert Labayen and directed by Paolo Ramos and Peewee Azarcon Gonzales .
Anticipation has been high for the station ID especially after the launch of the lyric video featuring BoyBandPh , Pinoy Big Brother Big 4 Maymay Entrata , Kisses Delavin , Yong Muhajil , and Edward Barber , “ Tawag ng Tanghalan ” Top 3 Noven Belleza , Sam Mangubat , and Froilan Canlas , and teen stars Sue Ramirez , Kristel Fulgar , Sharlene San Pedro , Alexa Ilacad , Kira Balinger , and Ylona Garcia in It ’ s Showtime on April 7 .
The video already has over a million views on ABS-CBN Entertainment ’ s official YouTube account alone in its debut . This year ’ s summer theme was written by Labayen with Love Rose De Leon , Johnny Delos Santos and Lloyd Oliver “ Tiny ” Corpuz of CMM , with music by Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana . ●
