News & Events ESAB launches new series of copperfree, seamless flux-cored wires for offshore welding applications ESAB Welding & Cutting Products introduces PrimeWeld, a new series of copper-free, seamless flux-cored welding wires specifically designed to meet the needs of the offshore construction industry. Produced using a unique seamless manufacturing process, PrimeWeld offers a very low diffusible hydrogen level which minimizes the risk of hydrogen-induced cold cracking (HICC) when welding thicker components, especially critical in offshore applications. The seamless wire design also prevents moisture absorption, improving product shelf life and minimizing any special storage and handling requirements. The catalogue shows our production program which includes the following types of machines: Electrical discharge · Machining centers · Milling machines · Slotting machines Parallel and vertical lathes · Drilling machines · Bandsaws Grinding machines Shaping machine · Tool grinding machines Bench-column grinding machines · Press brakes · Cutting shears Roll bending machines and Hydraulic steel workers Pipe and profile bending machines · Muffle furnaces Kasto automated warehouse forms core of new distribution centre Pipe Center has opened a new distribution centre (DC) in Measham, Derbyshire, the newest and most technologically advanced distribution operation in the supply chain of parent company, Wolseley UK. The 142,000 sq ft facility, which went live in December 2014, has given Pipe Center the ability to provide next-day delivery across its entire network and has created over 50 new jobs. At its heart is a bespoke, 3,332-location KASTOunicompact 4.0 automated warehouse, built in Germany and supplied through KASTO Ltd, Milton Keynes. The cassette-type tube storage system provides dynamic goods-to-man presentation for efficient picking, which reduces the amount of manual handling required. The KASTO system has reduced the distance warehouse operatives have to move when picking, speeding the consolidation of orders. The warehouse design also increases the height used for storage of Pipe Center’s SKUs (stock keeping units). The consequently reduced footprint represented significant cost savings. As part of its latest research into demonstrating the effect of drag on different suits for world class swimmers, Huub Ltd. is launching its new M16 Drag Measurement System, using PW15iA load cells from HBM – a market leader in the field of test and measurement. The new M16 Drag Measurement System, will be used to develop high performance triathlon and FINA approved swimwear, and is the latest advanced underwater application which can be used to measure the swimmer’s propelling force on a push-off pad. For further information, please contact our local dealer in the UK: As swimming performance is measured to the nearest 0.01 second, with swimmers in the top 15 separated by only 0.10 seconds, athletes continue to look at factors or legal aids which could improve performance in water, such as individually tested swimsuits that reduce drag; this is where Huub dives in! Preston Electrical Expands Franchises and Goes Online www.hbm.com AHT supporting Quicksilver water-speed project E. Preston (Electrical) Ltd was established in 1980 as a specialist distributor of switches and electrical components. Beginning with only 3 franchises the company currently has over 40 different franchises and holds approximately half a million pounds worth of stock. Now in the third generation of family ownership E. Preston Electrical continues to grow and build on traditional values. Alloy Heat Treatment (AHT) are delighted to be involved in the Quicksilver World Water Speed Record project. The project is a collaborative venture uniting highly-skilled people and firms from across the broad span of British industry, drawn together by the man who founded the project, author Nigel Macknight. AHT are the UK’s first and only specialist in the heat treatment of aluminium alloys. With over 40 years experience as a subcontractor focused solely on the heat treatment of aluminium alloys, they are the preferred destination for companies within all sectors of the light metal industry. This is a principle that was rooted in the business from its inception over 30 years ago by founder, and grandfather to the current directors, Ernest Preston. AHT Director, Ian Perks explained: “We are extremely proud to sponsor the Quicksilver project in its aim to bring the World Water Speed Record back to Great Britain, and it would be great to be a part of that. It is brilliant that there is a concentration of local companies that are also supporting the project.” AHT’s support of the Quicksilver project will be highlighted when they exhibit between 11-17th July at MAA stand 1/ B90 (Hall 1, UK Pavilion) at the Farnborough International Airshow. SEEPEX pumps have delivered process improvements at their Reading STW, reducing both operating costs and onward sludge transport costs. SEEPEX progressive cavity pumps replaced piston pumps transferring de-watered digested sludge to storage silos. Thames engineers identified a large saving in disposal costs by increasing the ds content of the dewatered sludge to 25%, however they needed reliable pumps to transfer the dewatered sludge over 80metres, with a static head of 30m, without increasing system costs. SEEPEX open hopper pumps transfer the higher ds% sludge with 50% reduced power consumption (15KW) and up to 75% reduced discharge pressure. The SEEPEX system has delivered a hat-trick of cost reductions: lower sludge disposal costs, lower energy use and reduced maintenance costs. Donghua Limited, the UK arm of one of the world’s largest chain manufacturers, CE Marking plate is available either in black or silver for ID purposes. announced recently that they are stamping CE marking on all their leaf chain products sold across the European Economic Area (EEA). CE Marking reassures customers that the manufacturer takes responsibility for the conformity of their product to applicable EC safety directives. The company is supporting this move even further by issuing a DEKRA certificate alongside their usual product test certificate. DEKRA provides an independent review of whether the product complies with relevant European criteria.
