New Load Cell Test
Machines for Straightpoint
in UK and US
Straightpoint has installed two new load cell
test machines—a 100t unit at Hampshire, UK
headquarters and a 55t system at the North
American nerve centre in Camarillo, California.
The MTS universal test machine, which arrived in
UK Installation
the UK from the US manufacturer at the turn of the
year, can test in compression and tension, giving Straightpoint the ability
to test its entire range of load cells up to 100t.
The smaller 55t (or 120,000-lb.) tensile calibration machine completed a
six-figure investment across both facilities in state-of-the-art equipment
that can calibrate and re-calibrate load cells made by Straightpoint and
other manufacturers.

New Ultra-Thin Nickel
Foil from Corrotherm
Corrotherm International, specialist in the
supply of nickel and nickel alloy materials,
is adding a new product to its already
extensive line-up of heat- and corrosionresistant alloys: nickel foil.
The new ultra-thin nickel foil offers excellent corrosion, welding and forming
properties, making it an alternative to the more traditional cold-rolled nickel
200 and 201. The key advantage of the new nickel foil over other alternative
alloy products is that it can be manufactured in extremely thin sheets, as
thin as 6μm - that’s thinner than a human hair.
Small, lightweight and equipped with rechargeable batteries and built-in gas cylinders,
you can expect eight hours of productive field time. Sampling is through an integral
pump with analysis completed in seconds.
Conventional rolling techniques don’t allow for such a thin result to be
economically achieved. Instead the high-purity nickel foil (>99.97% nickel)
is electro-deposited, which allows the material to be produced both thinly
and in greater widths than with traditional techniques.

first customisable power supply in the world that can
be delivered preset on request. Reporting thresholds and characteristic curves are
individually adapted via the NFC interface.

designed for attachment to the VertEx
cross-draught system.
The integrated Selective Fuse Breaking (SFB) technology delivers six times the rated
current for up to 15 milliseconds to selectively trigger standard circuit breakers.
Consumers connected in parallel continue to work. The static boost with up to 125
percent of the rated current is available at all times, allowing the system to be
conveniently expanded. For starting heavy loads, the dynamic boost with up to 200
percent of the rated current for up to five seconds is also available.
The advanced preventive function monitoring system provides an early warning
of system-specific critical operating states, even before an error occurs. With their
integrated gas-filled surge arresters, the single and three-phase 24 V power supply
units offer high interference immunity and a mains failure bridging time of over 20
milliseconds.

Using the new modular booth construction, a full environmental
containment booth can be built rapidly from standard parts.
The use of very high efficiency fans allows the complete booth installation
to operate from low power supplies while achieving very high airflows.
The booth shown in the above image is approximately 2.5m wide, 2.4m
high, and 2.2m deep, and draws more than 20,000m3/h. This impressive
air movement, and the associated booth lighting, all runs from a single
