temperature control can cost distributors in a number of ways if not tackled; they can lead to a loss of confidence in the distributor by manufacturers, the MHRA and pharmacists. At this pharmaceutical warehouse Andrews Chillers supplied a 500kW fluid air chiller and four 150kW air-handling units. Each of the air handing units is able to cool an area of 3,624m3 (127,000ft3), for this applications the units were arranged in pairs, and stacked to reduce required floor area. The air handling units are designed to connect to existing chilled water circuits or to an Andrews’ water chiller as was the solution for this medicine distribution centre. The four air handling units where situated in the warehouse with the 500kW fluid air chiller positioned externally but close to the building to reduce pipe runs, maintaining adequate chilled water passing through flexible ho ses to air handler units. Andrews Chillers twin-stacked pair of 150kW Andrews air handling units As specialist in the chiller hire business Andrews now operates with an established network of 25 depots in the UK and engineering teams able to discuss individual requirements and propose a cost-effective solution to their problem. Each Andrews’ chiller is a selfcontained unit complete with heat exchanger, condenser, control system, compressor and circulating pumps and features a rigid and robust, base plates that ensure site stability. the cooling pipework flows directly into the external chillers where the chilling process begins again. This cyclic, closed loop system with air handling situated within the building is the most effective for environmental temperature control. Chilled water is fed directly into each of the four air handling units and passes directly in front of a large fan which expels the cold air either directly or via trunking back into the warehouse. Warm air extracted via Conclusion With global warming seeming to be a reality, temperature control issues are likely to become even more of a problem in warehouses that are not equipped with appropriate, adequate cooling. To ensure compliance of temperature control guidelines Carl Webb, Sales Director of Andrews Specialist Hire Andrews Chillers The 500kW fluid air chiller is positioned externally but close to the building to reduce pipe runs. Division suggests establishing a working relationship with an experienced chiller hire company before its services are required. Pre-qualified requirements mean that a solution for maintaining correct temperature control is closer to hand - equipment on-site in just a few hours which could save a reputation and prevent financial losses. Choosing the right hire company can certainly pay dividends – quicker response to cooling problems, competent engineers, faster delivery – and above all temporary installation of the right chiller and any ancillary equipment.
