‘STRONGHOLD’ – New
fixed optical probes for
continuous meter reading

METMOTEC announces its ‘STRONGHOLD’ probes that
create a permanent connection between meter optical ports
to modems or energy management systems. The probes
eliminate the complex task of accessing a meter’s electrical
communication port. It also enables reading of meters
without an electrical communications port.
Chomerics Europe, a division of Parker Hannifin, has
updated its selector guide of class-leading electrically
conductive compounds. The guide, which can be

the company’s CHO-SHIELD conductive coatings, CHO-BOND and TECKNIT
sealants, gap fillers and adhesives, as well as CHO-LUBE conductive grease.

I&C electricity meters feature an optical port with a ferromagnetic disc traditionally
used for reading by hand-held computer via probes of low magnetic attachment.
STRONGHOLD’s secure attachment is achieved by magnets with over twenty times
the attraction force specified in the IEC 62056-21 standard (also known as ‘1107’
and ‘FLAG’).
Using the new guide, engineers and specifiers have at-a-glance access to all of
the products’ typical properties, including specific gravity, min/max temperature
use, shelf life, VOC and many more. To make selection even easier, a handy list
of typical applications and useful comments are included against each product.
Another version of the probe is offered with a mechanical mechanism for latching
to and from the optical port. The probes are high quality, competitively priced and
available with connectors for modems and RS485 and other networks.
