We begin our Museum Mile tour at The Frick Collection where a Johannes Vermeer painting is holding court , to say the least . It has been almost three decades since The Girl with the

Pearl Earring , with her azure turban and fetching come hither gaze , last visited Manhattan .
She has always commanded a bit of a cult following , but since her last visit to Gotham , the Chevalier novel and Weber film have made her a TMZ-worthy rockstar and now both the art-loving glitterati and the hoi pollio want to catch a glimpse . She is indeed the notable highlight of this season ’ s blockbuster show , “ Vermeer , Rembrandt and Hals : Masterpieces of Dutch Painting From the Mauritshuis .” And in deference to her stardom , she has the Oval Room at the Frick all to herself . The other 13 pieces in the show share space in the East Gallery with an adjunct of the three Vermeer ’ s in the Frick ’ s permanent collection on view in the West Gallery .
