park. Opened in 2013,
Romare Bearden Park is
another one of the newest additions to Uptown
Charlotte. The park was
named in honor of the
Charlotte-born Romare
Bearden, an AfricanAmerican artist and
writer. The park hosts
a multitude of activities
to promote the arts and
cultural growth in the
Queen City. The Party
in the Park Series begins
in April and will showcase emerging musical
talents in a wide array
of genres. It also hosts
fitness sessions and
workshops such as selfdefense and line dancing. To register for the
fitness program, contact

Of course, let’s not forget the ART! On Saturdays, Romare Bearden
Park offers free art and
photography classes as
part of the Art in the
Park Saturdays. The
park also will host art
shows and festivals
throughout the year.

Carriage Company
Quickly becoming a fixture in the uptown Charlotte scene (or sound
that is!), is the familiar
“Clip! Clop!” of the carriages slowly winding
their way through the
modern architectural
features of uptown.
Weather permitting in
spring months, the carriage tours depart hourly
from Tryon Street. The
carriages provide a restful backdrop to tour
the tree-lined streets of
Charlotte as coachman
offer fun facts about
the Queen City and its
founders. Who knew the
Victorian house on the
corner was actually the
first brothel in the city?
