Mr. Bushytail Fish er Ne al Learn to hunt on our least appreciated © CAN STOCK PHOTO INC. / VENDYATELIER game species For most city dwellers, THE COMMON GRAY SQUIRREL is little more than a rat with a furry tail that builds its nest in trees instead of underground. After witnessing them raid trash cans in public spaces, few non-hunters imagine squirrels to be appetizing table fare or fun to hunt, but ask anyone who was raised hunting as a child and nearly all of them will tell you that their first hunt was for squirrels. The reasons for this are simple. SQUIRRELS ARE PLENTIFUL AND DELICIOUS, THE WEAPONS NEEDED TO HUNT THEM ARE INEXPENSIVE AND LIGHT, AND THE SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS BIG GAME. In other words, squirrel hunting is easy to get into, provides delicious healthy meat, and is the perfect practice for someone who is just starting out hunting. 10 September 2015 eNewsletter
