It is the best of time worst of times - Jo
It ’ s amazing how quickly digital media is changing- -some for the better and some for worse ... much worse . I ’ ve talked here before about how the $ 500 digital SLR camera has really hurt the “ art ” of photography . True Professional photographers are now competing for work with photographer wanna-be ’ s everywhere . Raise your hand if you know someone that got married recently and used a friend or a relative to shoot the photos instead of hiring a pro photographer ? Everyone with a $ 500 camera now thinks they are a photographer yet most don ’ t know the difference between an f-stop and film speed .
The good news about $ 500 digital cameras ( and camera phones ) is now nothing goes “ un-shot .” There ’ s a camera everywhere . And for your friend that had Aunt Mary shoot their wedding photos ... maybe that ’ s all they could afford . I get that . But the result is we have image overload and most of the images just aren ’ t any good . We ’ ve completely dumbed-down our senses when it comes to photo art because we look at average ( or bad ) photos all day long on places like Facebook , Pinterest and Instagram .
And now that everyone has a blog or their own personal website , we ’ ve done the same thing to journalism . The written word used to be an art and we ’ ve ( all of us ) turned it into just another form of communicating . Of course we ’ ve done the same thing to the English language over the years . The version of English we speak now doesn ’ t even resemble the original language .
It ’ s a good thing that the internet allows everyone to have a voice , but just because you can talk doesn ’ t mean you always should . We don ’ t need just another paintball blog , Youtube channel , or paintball photo site . We need GOOD paintball blogs , Youtube channels and photo sites . There ’ s always room and an audience for quality .
Bad websites eventually just become internet tras The users usually quit on the sites , leave them up years , and just muck up great resource the intern is .
So lately I ’ ve decided to follow the blogs , magazines , websites and pho tographers that I know s create art , still know how to write , still take great photos and still have som thing to say . That ’ s what we ’ ve always strived for at PaintballX3 . We wan to give you quality writin photography and creati We want you to keep us your short list .
If there ’ s anything you th we can do better , please let us know . We definite don ’ t want to add to the trash dump .
