22 Paintball and bodybuilding share a common interest that most people are not aware of. If you’re reading this you probably know that Bob Gurnsey, Hayes Noel and Charles Gaines are the three co-founders of the game of paintball. They conceptualized the game together, found the cattle marking guns, set up the very first game ever played and recorded it for the world to see in the form of feature articles in Sports Illustrated and several other international magazines. Gaines and Gurnsey then went on to start The National Survival Game (NSG), the first company to sell and even manufacture products for the exclusive purpose of playing the game we now call paintball. But six years before the original three fired the first paint-filled ball at each other Charles Gaines was busy writing, directing and narrating a movie called “Pumping Iron.” If you are not familiar with the film, it is a documentary that covered the relatively unknown world (at that time) of bodybuilding, focusing on the 1975 IFBB Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia competitions. The film featured two unknown bodybuilders - Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. Pumping Iron put these two budding stars July 2014 on the map and introduced com bodybuilding to the world.
