TOURNAMENT A total of seventeen Division Four and Division Five, three-man teams competed on Saturday’s three-man RaceTo portion of the OXCC Challenge. They enjoyed unseasonably pleasant temperatures in the eighties with low humidity and bright sunshine. Games were played on a single field utilizing the PSP SoCal layout, and a combination of NPPL and PSP pro and divisional referees officiated. A gaggle of Freedom teams entered the three-man portion of the OXCC Challenge and many of them, three in-fact, made the cut from the preliminary rounds and moved into afternoon play. They were joined by the PA Mercenaries, PA Infliction, United, Ether Black and WeR1. Two Freedom teams managed to fight their way into the top four, with Freedom Red shooting it out for first against United and Freedom Blue taking on WeR1 for third. The paint stopped flying by mid-afternoon Saturday, and when the dust settled it was United standing at the top of the podium, with Freedom Red and Freedom Blue in second and third. Sunday’s five-man competition at the OXCC Challenge saw slightly warmer temperatures and two more teams, with a total of nineteen making the trip to fight for the Insights. Unlike the other three events promoted by the league in 2013, only one field would be used for the day’s five-man RaceTo competition but this proved not to be an issue as the event was running ahead of schedule by the afternoon. After a frustrating Saturday playing three-man, Destiny had better luck in the five-man competition, making it past the preliminary round along with two-event winners Leverage, Freedom Red, Rogue, Freedom, Devotion, NRG Elite and United. By late afternoon, Freedom and Rogue were playing for third and Leverage was looking for a third gold trophy, with only NRG Elite standing in their path. When it came time to hand out the prizes, Leverage had taken gold at yet another MAPL event, ahead of NRG Elite and Freedom. 104 PAINTBAL
