Scotty, there are some who insist there
is no way for construction projects to go
paperless, even as creative companies
work to do just that. What are your favorite
paperless solutions today that are pushing
the proverbial envelope when it comes to
the collaborative necessities of construction
projects?
I primarily use Evernote and BlueBeam. I have not
embraced the collaboration capability of Evernote,
but it is incredible for storing and finding notes
and documents due to its tagging and search
capabilities. On a recent project, we used a big
screen TV and BlueBeam to replace the plan table.
The plans were always up-to-date with RFIs and
Bulletins and accessible to everyone on the team
through BlueBeam Studio. This reduces errors
and confusion due to working off of the wrong
documents.
So are you saying that contracts and other
sensitive legal paperwork might persist in
traditional form for the foreseeable future?
Not at all. The AEC industry is consistently
increasing its acceptance of electronic signatures.
The advancement of biometrics into signatures will
inevitably make electronic signatures more secure
than hardcopies with wet signatures.
BlueBeam seems to be the first choice for
P2S CM. What are the real advantages for
your clients?
One of the biggest advantages for the client is they
don’t have to learn a new software or spend extra
money. BlueBeam is a .pdf editor designed for the
AEC industry and its capabilities span from basic
pdf viewing to online collaboration and doing
