Also , retinoblastoma is a common malignant tumour seen in childhood . It ' s got a very good cure rate at approximately 98 per cent however , there is a small percentage of patients that have the tumour spread and therefore have more complications later in life .”

Warning Signals
Amblyopia poor vision in an eye that has not developed normal sight ( usually during childhood ). The condition is sometimes called ' lazy eye ' and occurs when visual acuity is much better in one eye over the other . It is a common problem , and can be detected when one eye looks fine while the other turns in or out , up or down .
Ptosis drooping upper eyelid that covers the eye either somewhat or entirely , and so blocks the vision .
Chalazion a small lump on the eyelid which may occur when a meibomian gland ( oil-secreting gland in the eyelid ) becomes clogged . It is not caused by infection .
Stye looks like a red , sore lump near the edge of the eyelid . It is caused by an infected eyelash follicle .
Preseptal or Orbital Cellulitis an infection related to trauma , an upper respiratory infection or an eyelid infection . The tissues around the eye appear red and painfully swollen , a condition which usually occurs in one eye , which may be swollen shut . The child may have a fever . More serious infections can cause decreased vision , an inability to move the eye , and the appearance of the eye being pushed forward .
