A Sound Choice
BY DENIS LANGLOIS
Viveca Gravel is a hip, confident
saleswoman who doesn’t mind
standing out in a crowd.
She likes lenses that match her
outgoing personality.
“Glasses are no longer just a
necessity. They’re an accessory,”
the 30-year-old woman said during
a visit to Vision Care Centre in
Owen Sound.

Optician Bob Campbell said most
of his customers are like Gravel and
prefer frames that stand out.
“People want glasses that make
a statement either with the frame,
the size or the colour,” he said.
Eyewear must also be functional
and comfortable, Gravel said, along
with fashionable.
“I don’t like to see the frames when
I’m wearing glasses. I find that
distracting,” she said.
At Vision Care Centre, Gravel tried
on four of her favourite frames and
used the office’s Optikam system to
see how they look on her face.
In the end, she said one pair stood
out as the clear winner.
First, Gravel tried on a pair of
Prodesign 4712 frames with a dark
front and tri-coloured arms.
She liked the fit and appearance,
describing them as professional
in front and fun on the sides.
“I like these ones because they’re
comfortable,” she said.
