frame by frame A Sound Choice BY DENIS LANGLOIS Viveca Gravel is a hip, confident saleswoman who doesn’t mind standing out in a crowd. She likes lenses that match her outgoing personality. “Glasses are no longer just a necessity. They’re an accessory,” the 30-year-old woman said during a visit to Vision Care Centre in Owen Sound. 1 2 Optician Bob Campbell said most of his customers are like Gravel and prefer frames that stand out. “People want glasses that make a statement either with the frame, the size or the colour,” he said. Eyewear must also be functional and comfortable, Gravel said, along with fashionable. “I don’t like to see the frames when I’m wearing glasses. I find that distracting,” she said. At Vision Care Centre, Gravel tried on four of her favourite frames and used the office’s Optikam system to see how they look on her face. In the end, she said one pair stood out as the clear winner. First, Gravel tried on a pair of Prodesign 4712 frames with a dark front and tri-coloured arms. She liked the fit and appearance, describing them as professional in front and fun on the sides. “I like these ones because they’re comfortable,” she said.
