From the editor GET YOUR TECHNOLOGY ON As we close out 2014, one of the biggest changes we have seen in the eyewear industry has been the greater incorporation of digital technology. Eyewear is no longer something used for seeing clearly, but also for functioning as a phone, inbox, camera and message centre. This issue looks at how this 'Smart Technology' has crossed over into several products that allow users to put their cell phones down and instead put on a pair of glasses or contacts. We are pleased to join the industry in wishing Safilo a Happy 80th Anniversary. Last month the company hosted a gala in Toronto marking this milestone. The evening featured new designs, a to the past and a great opportunity for Safilo partners to meet one another. Optical Prism is also excited to share more details on the recent Ocuco – CC Systems partnership. These two companies have become staples in the lens manufacturing technology field. We talk to Ocuco president Leo Mac Canna on the significance of the partnership and what it means for the industry. The British Are Coming! Check out our special feature on the latest line from John Vavartos featuring Ringo Starr. This collection is a combination of fashion and giving with several opportunities to support the Ringo Starr Peace and Love Foundation. A fantastic way to look good while giving back. Once again we thank all of our readers and partners for another fantastic year. The year 2014 saw the world of eyewear move in exciting new directions and we love to share it with our readers. Make sure you are following us on social media and feel free to drop us a line and share what your company has planned for 2015.
