Q What message are you hoping to convey as a Transitions® lens ambassador? A If you are wearing glasses, you need to have Transitions® lenses in them. There are no excuses why you wouldn’t have them. The technology is amazing. I remember when I first started wearing glasses without Transitions lenses. I was always squinting, and it wasn’t comfortable. I talked to my eye doctor and he recommended Transitions lenses. It was like getting a new pair of eyes. Wearing glasses became comfortable; I wasn’t squinting, in fact, I almost felt like my vision was enhanced. Q Which Transitions® lens product do you wear? How long have you been wearing the product? A I’ve been wearing Transitions® lenses for more than a decade and upgrade every time a new product comes out. The technology keeps getting better. Right now I wear a combination of Transitions® Signature™ lenses and Transitions® XTRActive® lenses. I prefer Transitions XTRActive because it gets super dark. Q Have the lenses changed the way you live and work? What role does healthy vision play in your life? A On set I spend a lot of timing going in and out and, during a few of the food shows, I spend a lot of time outdoors or in tents where it’s bright out but not too bright. Having a single pair of glasses that adapt as I’m constantly moving about is convenient. Healthy vision is very important to me. It’s a key part of living a healthy and active lifestyle. I have two daughters that compete in different sports and activities, and I couldn’t imagine not taking care of my vision and missing out on watching them. the more I got into it the more people I met that inspired me along the way. Q Outside of cooking, what else are you passionate about? How else do you spend your time? A Staying fit. I start every morning by going to the gym. It makes me feel great and energizes me for the day. I spend 345 days of the year on the road, so going to the gym is something I get to do for myself. Q Q A A What are some of your favorite meals to prepare? Anything fresh. I love using fresh ingredients, because you can taste the difference. Fresh salmon is one of my favorite, more healthy, dishes to prepare. It’s good for your whole body, including your vision. Q What ingredient is essential to have in your kitchen? A Grape seed oil. It’s as good for you as olive oil and better to cook with. It doesn’t have a flavor so it allows the flavors of what you are cooking to stand out. Q What inspired you to become a chef? A It started by spending time cooking with my mom and Are there any meals where you feel the visual presentation is almost as important as the taste? Visual presentation is always important. It’s one of the first impressions you get from a meal and can influence what you taste. How many times has your mouth started watering over a great-looking meal? Q Where can people expect to see you with Transitions Optical in 2014? A People will always see me enjoying my Transitions® lenses, but the next event I have planned with Transitions Optical will be at the 2014 Epcot International Wine and Food Festival. • OPTICAL PRISM | DIGITAL SUPPLEMENT | MAY 2014 15
