OpenRoad Hyundai Boundary is surrounded by Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and OpenRoad Audi, and is now serving car consumers on both sides of the Vancouver-Burnaby border with a full lineup of their 2017 brand. OpenRoad Hyundai actually acquired the location because Audi outgrew the space and moved up the street to Lougheed Highway, allowing the long-time tenants of the Richmond Auto Mall a second location in one of the most prime locations Metro Vancouver has to offer. But the company didn’t simply move into the former digs of Audi and begin selling cars. In a bid to show that Hyundai is a top competitor in the B.C. automobile market, OpenRoad spent $1.8 million to completely redesign the dealership building. The result is stunning. Everything except the concrete was ripped out and rebuilt by Global Dealership Space Identity (GDSI) specifications, turning the dealership into a split-level facility with 30-foot floor-to-ceiling curtainwall windows allowing beautiful natural lighting, a modernized, open showroom, and a bronze-coloured roof. The latter design change is symbolic of the Hyundai makeover, changing from the traditional blue that consumers have come to know from the company, to the more international bronze design of Hyundai Worldwide. Inside, the 30,000-square-foot dealership features all of the services and comforts one might expect from a luxury brand with premium furniture, customer lounges, digital kiosks, tablets and wheel stands, all of it carefully selected to reflect Hyundai’s move toward a more refined and sophisticated brand.
