6 » OpenRoad Driver PUBLISHER’S NOTE » Scott Hargrove lands on the cover of this edition of OpenRoad Driver. When I first sat down with him in my office, I saw a young auto racer with nothing but upside potential. It was a leap of faith to invite him to join our OpenRoad Racing Team, but an educated one. The rest is history when right out of the gate Scott took home the championship of our country’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in his first year. Decades in age and professions apart, what do these two men have in common? Passion. Regardless of their forty-year age difference and their different métiers, they each have a passion to do the best and to be the best they can be. We should all take that as our inspiration. Soon afterwards, I sat down to interview my good friend Chef Michel Jacob, who has spent decades at the zenith of Vancouver’s restaurant scene. He is the humble grand maître of chefs who has mentored a who’s who of culinary talent, and created masterful French cuisine for movie stars and foodies alike. He and his legendary Le Crocodile Restaurant have been consistently extraordinary for over thirty years. Over in the Interior, we take passion seriously as we seek the perfect pairings of local “passion” wines with the fine chefs of the Okanagan. As we head towards summer, you can read about my favourite pairing: Painted Rock’s Red Icon with RauDZ’s “RJB,” a unique twist on surf and turf. Quite simply, delicious. Also, join us as our food adventures explore new territory. This is the first time we list the best eateries in Vancouver that represent “clean” eating. You might be surprised to see who made the list ... and who didn’t.
