12 » OpenRoad Driver Vivian Zalkow did my interview for YPO back in 2007 when I first joined. My family has chosen to focus on supporting the BC Children's Hospital. I had spent some time there as a child, and I remember how safe and comfortable the staff had made me feel. When we were able, my wife and I set up an endowment there. How do you describe your style? Experimental. Or, whatever my wife puts together for me! Honestly, I dislike going to stores and shopping. I really enjoy being presented with an outfit and just trying it. I recently started experimenting with Trunk Club, which sends me a trunk of clothing every few months and I try it on, keep and pay for what I like, and then send the rest back. I last about twelve minutes in a retail store, so this outsourcing of the shopping process is a huge time and energy saver for me. What is your go-to outfit? My absolute favourite go-to outfit is a loungewear set that I’ve been buying off Nordstrom online for the last five years or so. It’s black cotton pants and a long-sleeve black cotton shirt. You could call them pyjamas, but it’s a ritual that my father used to follow. He would come home after work and change into his casual wear and lounge shoes. It’s the ritual of physically removing whatever happened during that day and changing into the family clothes; transporting yourself, unwinding, having dinner and conversation together with your family and friends. Many of my good friends have seen me in my loungewear if they have visited during dinner. The second go-to outfit for a night out would be some low-cut boots, some stiff denim pants, a button-down shirt with vest and a sport coat. I was actually out the other night and had a vest on and a friend of mine said, “The vest is your go-to, hey?” So I guess that’s it! What role do accessories play in your wardrobe? Well, I recently started wearing pocket squares and I have to admit that I can’t believe I waited this long. The suit pocket was made for something, right? I’d say Interlaced patterns deliver an eternally powerful ensemble. A navy blue three-piece suit by Hugo Boss feels timeless and lavish, complemented by blue two-tone polka dot socks for textural colour and fun. Traditional black leather oxfords are hand-made in Italy by Hugo Boss, suitable for everyday formal wear.
