As a child I used to play football whenever I could be it a game of headers & volleys on the Bayley Field in Hurst Green or a game for Whalley Juniors I just always wanted to play. At St Augustines in Billington I was captain of the school team and it was in Year 10 when I got the opportunity to do my work experience at Blackburn Rovers Football in The Community that my love for coaching ?rst came about really. Following my work placement and going in and helping out during school holidays, when I left school I was offered a YTS position at Blackburn Rovers Football in The Community where I worked as a Community Football Coach going around schools coaching children of all ages & abilities. In April 2003 I passed my Level 2 Coaching badge at Platt Lane in Manchester and following this was given a full time coaching position working as Football Development Of?cer in the Ribble
Valley, a role I did for 3 years. In 2004 I ?rst became involved in coaching my own teams when I was asked to become Manager of Blackburn Rovers Ladies Reserve team and also coach the U16’s in the girls Centre of Excellence. This was when I ?rst got my hunger to really become a Head Coach/Manager one day. I always enjoyed improving players individually regardless of age, ability or gender as that is the job of all coaches, but it was improving and developing a group/ team that really grabbed my imagination and made me hungry to succeed. 2006 was a really pivotal year for me. In July 2006 I left Blackburn Rovers Football in The Community and set up my own sports coaching company ‘Pro Sport Coaching’ which I still run today overseeing several coaches who deliver sports provision for many schools throughout the Ribble Valley. Towards the end of 2006 I became the manager of the Blackburn Rovers Ladies First Team. I had been coach of the Ladies team under an excellent manager Andy McNally who I learned an awful lot off, and following his departure from the team I was asked by then football secretary at Blackburn Rovers Tom Finn to take temporary charge of the team. During this spell results picked up and I was offered the managers job at the age of just 22. Throughout my four and a half years as manager of the ladies team I certainly developed as a person, a coach and a manager and enjoyed a reasonable amount of success with the team, winning 4 Lancashire Cups, reaching the Semi Finals of the FA Cup on a couple
of occasions and turning Blackburn Rovers Ladies into an established National Premier League team. In April 2008 I successfully passed my UEFA B Licence at Bolton Wanderers FC and really felt I was making good progress as a coach. I left Blackburn Rovers FC in February 2011 having been there in numerous roles for the best part of 10 years and I do not think without the help and support of numerous people at the club that I would have achieved what I have so far. In October 2010 I started working at Runshaw College coaching the lads academy (16-19) and in my ?rst season as coach we won our league.
