Grassroots Football Funding options
The Football Foundation
The Football Foundation is the largest sports
charity in the UK funded by the Premier
League, The FA and Government (via Sport
England). It funds the development of new
and refurbished grassroots sports facilities
improving the quality and experience of
playing sport at the grassroots level to
sustain and increase participation and
improve general skills levels.
The FA
Funding is available upon application,
subject to meeting certain criteria, from the
Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports
charity. Funded by The Football Association,
the Premier League and the Government,
the Foundation directs £36m every year into
grassroots sport.
These three partners have committed
further funding into the Football Foundation
with a new agreement lasting to 2013. The
Foundation has been working closely with
its Trustees with a view to introducing
revised funding criteria with the emphasis
on making the maximum impact with the
available budget.
McDonald’s
We understand that all clubs are different
and need support in different ways. So here
at McDonald’s we are providing flexible cash
grants for those big ticket items such as
pitch fees, coaching courses or even a new
washing machine. You know what your club
needs better than anyone, so here’s your
chance to apply for funding that will really
make a difference.
The Prince’s Trust
Around one in five young people in the UK
are not in work, education or training. Youth
unemployment costs the UK economy £10
million a day in lost productivity, while
youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
We address this by giving practical and
financial support to the young people who
need it most. We help develop key skills,
confidence and motivation, enabling young
people
Kick It Out
Development Grant
The Kick It Out Development Grants have
been designed to help community groups,
grassroots and amateur clubs ‘kick-start’
activities for groups that are still underrepresented in mainstream football.
Through support from the Football
Foundation, Kick It Out is able to offer grants
of up to £2,000 each.
The aims of the grants programme include
helping to increase participation from BME
communities in all areas of the game
(including playing, coaching and refereeing),
using football to create more inclusive
communities and helping grassroots and
amateur teams develop closer links with
mainstream football including local County
Football Associations.
Sport England
Small Grants uses Lottery funding to make
awards of between £300 and £10,000 to
not-for-profit organisations to help more
people play sport. If you are considering
applying for a grant we would encourage
you to complete our pre-application
checklist as a first step. To find out more

Fairplay Fundraising
“Raise money for any cause by selling
something everyone needs!
Each bag of 40 loo rolls costs the buyer £20
of which your club keeps £8. Get all the
players involved and use your network to
sell as many bags as possible. It couldn’t be
easier! We deliver the toilet rolls to the
participating club free of charge. Only after
the bags have been distributed and the
money collected do you have to pay us our
share. That’s right, no up-front payment!”
