Beyond the familiar competitions which you can participate in at state convention (tests, art, Certamen, etc.), many non-convention contests also occur throughout the school year. So if you're bored and looking for something JCL-related to do, give these contests a try. These are a few of the most exciting.

1.

Club of the Month

Have you and your Latin club been working hard organizing service events and promoting JCL spirit? If so, you may want to enter the Club of the Month contest. Submit photos and descriptions of your club's activities through the Google Form which NJCL 2nd VP Trini Kechkian publishes in the JCL Spirit and Service Facebook Group. Each month's winners are featured online, so this contest is a great way to spread the word about your club.

2.

Creative Writing

The NJCL hosts an annual contest where students can submit classics-related stories and essays conforming to a certain theme. This year, entries should be works of genre fiction using characters from classical history or mythology. In effect, this means that you can write a romance story featuring Ares and Aphrodite, or a horror story involving your favorite Roman hero, or maybe a science-fiction spin on your favorite myth--the possibilities are endless! Ask your Latin teacher for more details on how to submit to this contest, and don't forget that the deadline is February 24th.
