26 Mom’s Tip “I made activity boxes out of old shoe boxes or plastic containers, and filled them with lots of different textured items like a wooden spoon, a squeaky bath toy, stacking blocks, a soft brush and so on – they all love to find their ‘treasures’!” Rachel, mom to Matthew, 6, Isobel, 3, and Tom, 11 months This month Have you noticed that your baby is particularly interested in toys that ‘do’ things – like a toy telephone that rings? This month, baby’s deduction skills are improving and learning how things work is becoming more apparent – taking the lid off a box, putting the phone to her ear, rolling a ball away, pushing buttons and more. Keep her amused with lots of creative play time! Book corner At this age, your baby will love this type of ‘first word’ books, rather than proper stories and you’ll soon start to see her responding to you when you ask ‘where’s the…?’ on each page. Your baby at nine months Q&A I’ve been breastfeeding my daughter until now, but I feel it’s time to stop. I’m not sure how, can you help? Did you know? Your baby’s eye colour has most likely reached its final colour by now! There may be more subtle hue changes until the age of three, but the overall colour has now been determined. So, who does baby take after? Well done for breastfeeding for so long! If you have decided that now is the time to stop, it is best to wind down gradually over the next few weeks and drop one feed every few days. You may feel a little uncomfortable as your body gets used to producing less milk. Wear a supportive bra if you’re feeling engorged, and if you have to, express a little milk by hand.
