20 Your baby at eight months This month Your baby’s pincer grasp (between thumb and first finger) is developing well, allowing her to pick up small items more easily. Add some finger foods to mealtimes, such as bananas, toast, cooked pasta and so on, and watch as she gets excited by feeding herself! Splish splash Make bath time fun with some suitable toys – rubber duckies, floating toys, stacking cups and even some little bath books. Play time! Safe play Do you find yourself missing the days when your baby would stay in the same place when you put her down? Now that she’s on the move, you may be finding it harder to get things done. A play pen or ‘safe’ play area where baby is contained is useful, even if it just allows you to go to the toilet in peace! For your big parenting adventure This month, teach your little one about stacking and different size objects. Her natural curiosity will mean that putting smaller things inside larger ones is a very exciting game as she learns that she can do this over and over again and the item will still be there.
