UNSW Indigenous Society Update
UNSW Indigenous Society Recommendations
Making College More Culturally Aware
The UNSW Indigenous Society was approached by the Basser College President, seeking advice
as how to make the college more culturally appropriate and aware of Indigenous culture. After
holding an online forum, the Indigenous Collective came up with several recommendations and are
planning on approaching other colleges on UNSW Campus to integrate these recommendations
into their colleges. For a copy of the recommendations please see UNSW
Indigenous Students page or email Bridget.

Have you got a story to tell? Do you like to write? Entries for
Indigenous section in UNSWeetened NOW OPEN!
UNSWeetened is UNSW’s annual literary journal, lovingly put together by student volunteers and
launched during Arts Week in Semester two. Each year, the journal publishes a diverse range of
poetry and short stories which are written by both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This
year, the journal is looking to represent a broader and more diverse group of UNSW creatives
through showcasing the best creative writing talent on campus in a variety of fields and redefining
our categories to ‘Open Prose,’ ‘Open Poetry’ and ‘Indigenous Section’. We are looking for every
kind of submission – from the personal to the provocative, weird to wonderful, strange to
structured.
This year we are working in conjunction with UNSW’s Indigenous Collective to create an
Indigenous Fiction section. This section is aimed at promoting and recognising Indigenous writers
within our community. Indigenous writers are encouraged to submit to this category but are also
free to submit their works in the Open Fiction section.
Past journals are available at: http://www.arc.unsw.edu.au/read/unsweetened-literary-journal. You
can also access the submission form there. Entries are due by June 14. For extensions and
questions please don’t hesitate to contact:
Carla Zuniga via email at [email protected]. au
