Nura Gili would like to acknowledge the Bidjigal (Kensington Campus), Gadigal
(Paddington Campus) and Ngunnawal (ADFA, Canberra) people, who are the traditional
custodians of the lands where each campus of UNSW Australia is located.
Welcome to the 26th edition of Nura Gili News.
Firstly, we would like to take the time to thank
Rebecca Harcourt for all of her hard work in bringing
the Nura Gili News to life and delivering monthly
stories to us over the last three years.
We are both thrilled to have been given this opportunity
to take over the role of Editors for Semester One and
gain the position of Nura Gili’s new Media Interns. We are both currently in our final year of
completing our Bachelor of Media and have been lucky enough to gain work experience at Nura
Gili.
As our first issue of the year, we would like to welcome all first year and new students to the Nura
Gili family and we hope you are all settling in well. To all of the continuing students, welcome
back to another year at UNSW and we hope you’ve taken the time to relax and catch up on some
sleep over the mid-semester break.
This year will entail a number of exciting events and we strongly encourage all students to keep
up-to-date with the Nura Gili News to ensure you don’t miss out on what is to come in 2016. We
also recommend joining both UNSW Indigenous Students and the UNSW Indigenous Society
Facebook groups in order to remain updated with upcoming events for the year.
We hope you all enjoy this month’s edition of the Nura Gili News and wish both students and staff
a successful year, as 2016 is guaranteed to be an exciting experience for all!
Welcome Back, Alicia!
We are all excited to finally welcome back
Alicia, after she took 15 months maternity leave
from Nura Gili! Alicia has had the opportunity to
spend precious time embracing motherhood,
with baby Aaliyah, and says that the best part
of becoming a new mum is being there for her
daughter and all of the fun things that come with
becoming a parent. Since returning to the front
desk, Alicia has been most excited to see all of
the staff and students of Nura Gili, as she has
missed seeing all of the familiar faces during
her time off.
We wish Alicia the best of
luck with her return and
hope she settles back in to
her role at Nura Gili!
