It’s been an incredibly busy two months in the eyewear industry filled with events
like Vision Expo West, Silmo, Vision Canada and the Ontario Opticians Association
Specialty Symposium.
Each event is a time to catch up with industry partners, learn about the latest styles
and technology and see how optical shops can improve their practice.
Though often overlooked by the wearers themselves, who tend to be more focused on
frame fashion, ECPs understand the incredible importance of having the right lenses.
In this issue we examine the latest lens technology including the increased use of
photochromic technology to understand the hazards of ‘blue light’ in a new digital
age. More and more ECPs are seeing patients coming in complaining about eye strain
rather than a traditional eye issue. This has forced the industry to examine how it
deals with health issues related to the use of computers and digital devices.
We also look at the latest free-form technology to help you better understand the
various types of lenses and how to best fit your patients.
Don’t forget to take a moment to check out the industry calendar. Attending events not
only offers the chance to meet the credits necessary to practice in the eyewear industry but
also offers the chance to learn what others are doing to improve their own practice and stay
current on the latest technological offerings.
