B29 SUPERFORTRESS “T-SQUARE-54”
- A Bomber Main Engine Exhaust Restoration
O
ne of the most important
aircraft from World War II, a
surviving Boeing Superfortress
superbomber, was sitting in the
old Boeing Plant 2 hanger in
South Seattle, when I received
a consultation call from retired
Boeing Engineer Syd Baker. His
request was to have a composite
lay-up tool made that would form
eight exhaust manifolds for the
B29 bomber named “T-Square
54.” The plane was undergoing
extensive restoration, with no
details too small, for showcasing
the aircraft as it was in World
War II. We jumped to meet the
challenge!
