Like any fly , you will need to have a variety of colors and sizes to cover all your bases . You will find that one pattern will not work every day . If you tie your own , all the better . You have the option to create a myriad of patterns in every shape , color and size your imagination will allow . Nothing says you ’ re ready for anything better than a full box of these flies .
The bulbous eyes , or “ Boobies ,” are made out of foam . You can find this material in either pre-formed eyes or cylindrical tubes . The pre-formed eyes come in different sizes and colors . The pre-formed eyes make it a lot easier , and take the guess work out of cutting them to shape and attaching them to the hook . The cylindrical foam also comes in different diameters and colors . You ’ ll have to cut to size and shape the round edges .
Like I mentioned earlier , most of the bodies are one type of synthetic chenille on the market . The types of colors used are as varied as the imagination of the tier . Also , consider using one of the many types of dubbing in a dubbing loop . This will allow you to mix colors and expand your selection . In most patterns , the tail and wing are marabou . The streamer patterns you will find also incorporate rabbit and squirrel zonker strips , as well as the traditional use of marabou .
Some tiers will even attach different stick on eyes to the Booby foam to give a more realistic look to the fly . From my own experience , I have found that there seems to be some positive response to
