I was a P–12 school
principal on the Sunshine Coast and
elsewhere in Queensland for 12 years and
delighted in seeing countless students
graduate and head off to university.
After 25 years working in education, one
thing I know for certain is that everyone
learns differently.
Many professionally accredited degrees
such as teaching, nursing, engineering and
psychology have quite strict guidelines
covering what is taught, set by their
professional bodies. So to some extent,
you can expect to be taught the same
information regardless of which university
you choose.
However, the way this is taught, and the
degree to which lecturers and tutors engage
with the subject matter and with you as a
student, varies a great deal.
It’s crucial to find a university that suits your
learning style and aligns with your values.
These four local universities offer fully accredited pathways into each of the most
popular careers. Apart from one or two very specialist exceptions (e.g. becoming a vet
or a pilot) university offerings are very much the same, so choosing where to go really
comes down to how you like to be taught, the costs of living away from home and
where you feel most comfortable.
