Girl Scouts Rock the Square

September 24th and 25th, Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons partnered with Girls Inc. and Melinda Caroll, Girl Scout recording artist, to create a songwriting workshop for girls, ages 8 to 12 resulting in a new song for girls, by girls. Melinda Caroll also performed an impromptu concert the following afternoon at Girls Inc. and later that night in the center of Rapid City, SD. Caroll held a wonderful community concert, Girl Scouts Rock the Square!

The song the girls wrote and sang at the concert with Melinda Caroll is called "Girls Rock" and rock they did! Look for a Spring 2014 New Album release of their song and more in a collection of collaborative songs with girls from around the world!

understanding of a global community. The girls also said one of their favorite parts of the trip was trying different foods. Every moment was fun, educational and interesting; there’s never a dull moment with this troop!

The girls worked very hard over the last few years to save up for their trip. They funded their experience through Cookie Sale proceeds, bake sales, car washes and other personal entrepreneurial endeavors. The troop is extremely grateful for the community support they received and are looking forward to giving back in the near future. They are beginning to work on their Gold Award projects this year and will focus on global issues, which also have a local effect on their Thief River Falls community.
