This vibrant kitchen responds to both the likes and needs
of its owners – as do the advanced Smeg appliances
One likes crisp and contemporary while
the other likes colourful and warm – two
chefs, two points of view. Compromise
may be required on design, but selecting
the appliances is far easier.
Such were the two individual design
preferences requested by the owners of
this kitchen, by designer Hayley Dryland.
What they agreed on was an understated
look that could be changed down the line.
In response, a white kitchen with a
custom tile splashback was chosen – the
latter added warmth and colour but could
easily be switched out later, says Dryland.
“Plenty of storage was required but,
one owner didn’t want any valuable space
taken up by adding a room for a scullery.”
The solution was to introduce a sliding
door pantry into the cabinetry – unsightly
mess is out of sight from the public spaces.
“The owners also wanted a kitchen
that would truly perform, as one is an avid
chef. This part was easier – we specified
Smeg appliances in pristine stainless steel.

white cabinetry and Morroccan-look tile
