Maximising storage space was critical in the new JPL Distribution Centre. Dexion Industrial was engaged to help design and implement part of the material handling solution, including a three-tier rack supported shelving system, believed to be the largest storage system of its type in New Zealand. Dexion senior systems executive Daniel Austin says the system can store approximately 90,000 different items, and comprises more than 26km of shelving over 9000m2. To maximise the available space, Dexion opted for low-profile beams for the shelves, with mesh decking. “We specified the Dexion Speedlock racking system, which has been designed and tested to meet both Australian and European Standards,” 48 search | save | share at trendsideas.com Austin says. “Each of our beams, uprights, base plates, splices and frames has been tested extensively and assessed under the independent eye of the University of Technology, Sydney.” Austin says the use of pre-galvanised uprights provides a light, reflective environment for workers. “There were other requirements to take into consideration as well. The solid floors and fire baffles ensure the system conforms to sprinkler code requirements. And our in-house engineer has ensured the shelving system meets the seismic code. This was especially critical as the shelving system is 9m tall and sits on a 6m-high structural mezzanine floor.” Austin says Dexion’s involvement with JPL is continuing with the supply of software and conveyor systems to provide a full turnkey solution. Below:Dexion Industrial was contracted to design and supply part o f the material handling solution for the JPL Distribution Centre. This included conveyor systems and the Dexion Speedlock three-tier racking system.
