As the saying goes, “People pay more attention to what you DO than what you SAY!” L et’s face it, using physique-enhancing drugs to improve your body is illegal. Bodybuilding drugs are forbidden not only by competitive drug-free bodybuilding organizations, but are also deemed illegal by local and federal government. The bottom line is this: If we bodybuilders want to be more respected by the general public, illegal drugs must be removed from our endeavors. Period! If you are a noncompetitive bodybuilder, I don’t believe you should even entertain the idea of using illegal drugs to get the quality physique you desire. The gains you will make with the drugs will only be with you as long as you use them, you probably won’t want to spend all of that money on them forever, you will have to worry about your health, and you will have to worry about the law catching up with you. All these risks for what exactly? Just to be the biggest, most muscular guy around? Believe me, there will always be someone bigger—not matter how big you get. Instead, you should focus your attention on learning what it takes to build your body without them. If you are a competitive bodybuilder, you should have already come to the realization that this sport is for the genetically elite. If you do not have an awesome structure to begin with, it doesn’t matter which ones or how much drugs you take. You will only achieve so much success. Whether success to you is winning your local show or winning a national competition, you need to ask yourself if it is really worth it. If really have what it takes to become a professional competitive bodybuilder or even a great regional one, you should be able to do extremely well as a drug-free bodybuilder first. And yes, even in non-tested bodybuilding contests. Even then, I would never recommend anyone taking illegal physique-enhancing drugs—especially when someone has not even taken the time to learn what they are doing in the gym and at the dinner table first. And, trust me, you really won’t know how to train and eat in manner that will maximize your genetic potential until at least five years of totally committed bodybuilding. Now, let’s talk about what happens in the real world. It is inevitable that some people, by human nature, will not always obey the law or worry about what is best for their health. If there is an easier and faster way to get the job done, some people will take that route—regardless of its legality or health risks. Contrary to what many self-righteous, “holier than thou” natural, drug-free bodybuilders like to tell themselves, drugs in bodybuilding taint the sport for all bodybuilders. Unfortunately, when you, as a natural bodybuilder, develop a certain amount of size, muscularity, 28 Natural Muscle Magazine or degree of leanness, the first assumption made by other natural bodybuilders and the general public is that you are using illegal drugs to achieve a physique of that quality. Too many people training in the gyms today never discover what they are truly capable of achieving naturally. They immediately start using drugs at the very beginning of their journeys because they firmly believe it is impossible to build a truly admirable physique without them. Where is the solution that will help us overcome the terrible drug stereotype that the general public has against us—and that we even have amongst ourselves? What evidence will bodybuilders around the world need to believe that they can develop a good physique without drugs? In my opinion, finding the solution to these challenges will need to happen in three stages: 1.) The proliferation and exposure of outstanding natural, drug-free bodybuilders; 2.) A certain amount of “lag time” for the process and acceptance of that process to evolve must pass; and 3.) Then, the new, higher standard that has been established must be accepted as truly being drug free. My passion for over 20 years has been to spread the information, inspiration, and the "secrets" from my personal discoveries (and what I’ve gathered from the very best natural bodybuilders in the world) in the areas of training, nutrition, motivation, and sports supplementation.
