Public Transportation
The Nantucket Regional Transit Authority ( NRTA ) provides seasonal public transit bus service called The Wave . Service is provided to / from Nantucket Town to mid-island and outlying areas on the Mid-Island and Miacomet loops ; Madaket on the Madaket route ; ‘ Sconset on the ‘ Sconset via Old South Road route , the Milestone Road route , and the Polpis Road route ; Surfside Beach via the Surfside Beach route ; Jetties Beach via the Jetties Beach route ; and Nantucket Memorial Airport via the Airport route . Stops are conveniently located along all loops / routes , and are designated by gray posts with blue stripes . Park and Ride lots are available along the Miacomet and Mid-Island loops . You may park free of charge and “ Ride the Wave .” One , three and seven-day passes may be purchased aboard all buses . Thirty-day and season passes may be purchased at the NRTA office . All buses are accessible to people with disabilities and equipped to accommodate two bikes on a first-come , first-served basis . Your Island Ride provides complimentary paratransit service with 24-hour advance notice by calling ( 508 ) 325-7516 . Reasonable modifications are available upon request .
